Glasgow Museums has a collection of around 2,500 objects relating to clubs and societies in Glasgow which date from the 15th century to 2003.

This collection comprises photographs, trophies, publications, ephemera, medals, boxes, sporting equipment and drinking utensils. It also contains mallets, club syllabuses and programmes, membership cards, clothing, items relating to smoking and snuff taking. In addition it holds pennants and banners, rulebooks, magic lanterns and slides, collection boxes, paintings and badges. There are items from sports clubs such as the Caledonian Cricket Club, the Old Glasgow Rowing Club and the Keppochhill Bowling Club as well as clubs for culture enthusiasts such as the Orpheus Club and the Lyric Club which held performances in city theatres. Motor sports clubs are represented by items from the Royal Scottish Automobile Association and from other local clubs. A large part of the collection also relates to the various camera clubs of the city, and includes the significant 1955 photographic survey of Glasgow. Other kinds of clubs covered are political clubs, chess and draughts clubs, youth groups, religious groups, working men's clubs, musical groups and cinema clubs.

Glaswegians have been enthusiastic members of clubs and societies for at least 200 years, and this collection documents the wide range of organizations which have existed in the city. The collection does not cover objects connected to trade unions, friendly societies, women's guilds, temperance societies or suffrage societies, which are covered elsewhere in the collection.
