Glasgow Museums has a collection of six 17th century bags and purse dating from 1600 to 1699.
Different types of bags and purses were used for various purposes in the 17th century. These ranged from large ceremonial burses, like that used to hold the Great Seal of England to small purses, known as a sweet bag, which were used for small amounts of money or scented dried flowers and herbs.
