Curator of Social History
Fiona Hayes has been Curator of Social History since 1998, based at the Peoples Palace and Winter Gardens. She is responsible for the collections related to Glasgows social and local history with emphasis on the period from the eighteenth century to the present. Her remit covers Glasgow civic history, leisure and popular culture, politics and popular protest, community history, topography including photography, domestic and personal life, working life and womens history. Fiona joined Glasgow Museums in 1990 as Assistant Keeper of Outreach as part of the team that set up the Open Museum; Glasgow Museums community outreach programme.
She is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh and holds a postgraduate diploma in Museum Studies (specialising in social and industrial history) from the University of Leicester. She has been an Associate of the Museums Association since 1993 and is a member of the Social History Curators Group.
