Model of hull of the 'Comet', 1812

Model of hull of the 'Comet', 1812

Full hull builder's design model of passenger steamship Comet, scale 1:24.

The plain varnished wooden model is shown with paddlebox and detailed carving at the bow. The model is supported by two turned metal and two wooden mounts.

The paddle steamer Comet was the first commercially operated steamboat in Europe. The 24 ton vessel was built in 1812 by John Wood & Co., Port Glasgow, for Henry Bell, Helensburgh, with an engine by John Robertson. She was lengthened in 1819 and wrecked 1820.
