Stalked crinoid

Stalked crinoids in spirit, collected in North Atlantic ocean, 1977

Stalked crinoids in spirit, collected in North Atlantic ocean, 1977

These stalked crinoids were collected by dredging from deep waters in the north east North Atlantic. This was during a voyage by the research vessel Challenger during 1977.

Like all crinoids these ones are suspension feeders, they use their feathery arms to gather in algae and other foods from the water and then pass it down to their mouths.

These specimens have been preserved in spirit. They still need to be identified to species level.
