Full-hull, shipbuilder's display model of passenger/cargo steamships Hibernian and Norwegian, scale 1:48.
This shipbuilder's display model shows the clipper bow and counter stern of the sister ships and is sectioned to waterline on the port side. The model is fitted with a full detailed superstructure, deck fittings and truncated funnel and masts. It is painted in the livery of the original owners, the Montreal Ocean Steamship Co. (later Allan Line), Glasgow. In addition the cutaway section of the port side shows the vessel's internal arrangements and accommodation, from third class accommodation in the bow to the galleried first class saloon at the stern. Each area is labelled with small wooden plaques. The model is supported on four turned steel and brass mounts. It was made for William Denny & Bros, Dumbarton by their model maker, Edward Johnson, and was exhibited by the firm in London in 1862.
Hibernian and Norwegian were passenger/cargo steamships of 1888 tons, built 1861 by William Denny & Bros, Dumbarton, for the Montreal Ocean Steamship Co. (later Allan Line), Glasgow. Norwegian was wrecked in 1863 and Hibernian was broken up in 1901.
