Description

Full hull ship model of steam yacht Livadia, scale 1:48 made by Mr James Cameron.

This superb model shows the extraordinary hull and superstructure of this famous vessel in great detail using black, grey pink and buff painted wood and metal. The details of wood panelling, carving and windows on the deck saloons are drawn on in Indian ink and accented with watercolours. There is a finely carved wooden figurehead showing the Russian Imperial crest at the bow and a full range of deck fittings, masts and rigging. The model is supported on four turned brass mounts. The model was exhibited by Fairfield in Glasgow 1880–81, 1884, 1888 and 1911, in London in 1882 and in Antwerp in 1894.

Livadia was a steam yacht of 7262 tons which was built in 1880 by John Elder & Co., Govan, for Tsar Alexander II of Russia. The luxurious vessel was designed by Admiral Popov and John Elder to one of the former's naval designs.
