Copland and Lye was a department store founded by William Copland and John Lye with premises at Arglye Street or Cowcaddens in 1873. In 1878 the firm moved to larger premises at Caledonian House, a large Italianate building, at 165, 167, 169 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow. In the 1890s the firm passed to the family of Robert A Ogg, a senior partner with Ogg & Hodge. Copland & Ly had its own restaurant, tea room and orchestra at Caledonian House, with further premises in Wellington Street and Bath Street. By 1924 it had become a limited company. Copland & Lye closed in 1971. The clock from its main premises was donated to Milngavie Town Council and is now on the junction of Douglas Street and Main Street, Milngavie.
