Originally established in 1872 as a hosier, glover and shirtmaker with premises at 5-7 Renfield Street, Glasgow, in 1872, later expanding to take over the corner of Gordon Street, Glasgow, in 1897. The business flourished with a store opening in Edinburgh, 1907, and other stores, some specialising on specific retail areas, followed.
