Description

Stained glass heraldic shield (per fess gules and vert three hedgehogs proper). The family represented has not been identified.

Prior to entering the collection of Sir William Burrell, this panel was in the collection of Frederick Sydney Eden (1859-1950), a former lawyer who, after being jailed for fraud, became well known for his various writings on stained glass. It then entered the collection of the American newspaper tycoon, William Randolph Hearst (1863-1951).

The item was published in William Wells, Stained and Painted Heraldic Glass, Burrell Collection, 1965, no. 38.
