Description

Poster advertising Anchor Line services from Glasgow to New York via Londonderry 1927. The full colour design shows a sailor in a blue jumper and cap at the helm of his ship.

The artist, Phillip Boydell (1896-1984) had a maritime background and worked for Publicity Arts Ltd in the late 1920s before going on to work for the London Press Exchange and the Festival of Britain.

This poster is one of a collection gifted to Glasgow Museums by the Anchor Line. The posters are proof copies which record the numbers printed for circulation to Anchor Line booking offices and shipping agents. 15,130 copies of this poster were printed in February 1927.
