The snake millipede (Cylindroiulus londinensis) is one of the largest millipedes found in Britain reaching a length of up to 3.5 centimetres.
Millipedes have two pairs of legs on each body segment. They are herbivorous animals commonly found in leaf litter and under rocks and rotting logs. They help break down vegetation and turn it into soil. They are preyed upon by centipedes, spiders and vertebrates.
These three specimens were collected in Croydon, Surrey. They are preserved in spirit. - ID Number
