Description

This moss is part of the museum's overseas bryophyte collections. It was originally part of the University of Strathclyde's herbarium and belonged to the large collection made by John Scouler. He made one of the earliest voyages of discovery to the western seaboard of North America (arriving there in 1825). The more famous pioneer David Douglas (of Douglas Fir fame) accompanied him. It is thought that this specimen was collected by the latter when he visited Hawaii, where he died in 1834.
