Comments

Glasgow Museums has an extensive collection of archaeological assemblages and finds. These date from about 450,000 years ago, in the Palaeolithic, to the twentieth century AD. This collection includes items from across Scotland, but predominantly from sites in west and central Scotland, including Glasgow, Lanarkshire, and Argyll. It also encompasses material from England, Northern Ireland, and Ireland. Further, other European locations are represented, including Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, France, and Belgium. The collection contains several important objects of value for display and research, objects from scheduled monuments and UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and is strong on prehistoric material, especially that dating to the Neolithic to Bronze Age periods. It also contains an important collection of material from crannogs, and an extensive and significant collection of late- and post-medieval material from the city of Glasgow.
