Christianity

Comments

Glasgow Museums has a collection of approximately 10,000 objects related to Christianity. These date from the 9th century to the present. This collection comprises items that relate to Christian practice and refer to Christian subjects, and which are of religious and cultural significance. It includes paintings, stained glass, carved stones, furniture, textiles and vestments, jewellery and communion tokens. The collection is mostly European in origin, but also encompasses many objects donated by Scottish missionaries from around the world, such as Bibles, teaching aids, prayer cards and ephemera. It notably represents the different branches of Christianity present within the city of Glasgow, including the Church of Scotland, the Episcopal Church and the Catholic Church, with other groups such as temperance associations, social clubs and charitable organizations also represented. This collection further benefits from a photographic archive documenting the practice of Christianity in Glasgow in the 21st century.
