Comments

Glasgow Museums has a collection of approximately 20 objects, dating broadly from 1800 to 2000, that relate to a number of different religions. The collection represents several religions being practiced in Glasgow, including the Baha’i Faith, Brahma Kumarism, Jainism, Mormonism and Rastafarianism. Most of the material serves to represent the changing religious demographic of the city. The collection also includes some unique objects, such as the turtle posts from the Torres Straits, and engages with the diversity of religious expression both globally and locally. Since the late 1990s there has seen a dramatic increase in the number of different religions being practiced in Glasgow. It is expected that this collection will continue to grow by engaging with these faiths and with others such as Scientology and secular humanism.
