World Cultures Coins and Tokens

Comments

Glasgow Museums has a collection of approximately 1,850 coins and tokens relating to world cultures. These mainly date from the 19th and 20th centuries. This collection comprises coins from Thailand, Tibet, China, Japan, North America, South America and Africa. They are mostly of British manufacture or produced at branch mints in the colonies, with the exception of 145 coins from the Americas. The collection is small because many of the societies represented by the world cultures collection do not use coinage as currency, and it is for this reason that the coins in the collection are generally of British origin and related to the British Empire.
