Glasgow Museums has a road transport collection of around 1,255 objects. These date from 1800 to the present. This collection has a wide-range of vehicles which were powered by humans, horses or motors and travelled on both roads and pavements. These items include horse-drawn vehicles and steam carriages, cars, emergency vehicles, caravans, commercial vehicles, cycles, motorcycles, prams, disability transport, buses and road transport models. There are many noteworthy vehicles within this collection, including the earliest surviving bicycle in the world – made by Gavin Dalzell, after Kirkpatrick MacMillan – and the Faslane Peace Camp caravan, complete with fittings and furnishings.
