Glasgow Museums has a collection of 437 objects relating to Scottish Banking. These date broadly from 1200 to 2000. This collection encompasses coins and paper notes, and prints and paintings that depict scenes related to Scottish banking. Further items include furnishings, banking information leaflets, locks and keys, cheque books and banking books. The collection is an excellent representation of Scottish banking. For the most part it reflects merchant and local banking. A few banks of Falkirk, Aberdeen and Leith are represented, but the main focus is on Glasgow banks – such as the City of Glasgow Bank, Ship Bank, Western Bank of Scotland, Clydesdale Bank, Union Bank of Scotland, National Bank of Scotland, that of Andrew George and Andrew Thomson, Glasgow Bank Company and the Savings Bank of Glasgow.
