Glasgow Museums has a collection of about 20,000 objects related to education in Glasgow, Scotland and England. These date from 1790 to the present. This collection predominantly contains items from the west of Scotland, representing pre-school through to further education. Its strengths are a wide range of school photographs, classroom furniture, technical teaching aids and written and oral testimonies about being a pupil at Scotland Street School and living in the surrounding area. Other items include paintings, prints, university class tickets, medals, badges, trophies, costume and textiles, school bags and cases, diplomas, examination papers and architectural fragments. The collection also contains writing equipment and audio-visual equipment, ceramics, books, slates, blackboards, globes, maps, charts, visual aids, cuisenaire rods, attendance boards, certificates and registers. In addition there are sand trays, taxidermy specimens, music sheets and stands, weights, recorded music, programmes and other ephemera. The collection also includes items related to Scottish universities, especially the University of Glasgow, Anderson College and the University of Edinburgh, plus a few objects related to nursery school education and a further few that relate to schools and schooling in England.
