Glasgow Museums has a collection of about 1,500 objects related to Scottish governance and the Scottish nobility. These date broadly from 300 to 2000. This collection contains impressions and copies of seals of Scottish towns, cities and political and ecclesiastical leaders, and coins and weights and measures. It also includes prints and paintings, archives and Scottish Parliamentary papers, medals, furniture and costume. The collection is relevant to Scotland as a whole and represents both political consent and order, and periods of conflict and protest, such as the Roman occupations, medieval wars of independence and the Covenanter conflicts of the 17th century. The collection is related to the natural history collections through animals donated by monarchs, nobles and Scottish cities and towns.
