Prams

Comments

Glasgow Museums has a collection of 48 prams and buggies. These date from 1900 to the present. This collection comprises Scottish- and British-built prams and buggies. It contains seven doll’s prams, five coach-built prams from between the two world wars, and ten elegant prams dating from the 1940s and 1950s, including an Osnath pram bought in Glasgow. A further 12 prams from the 1960s and 1970s include a relatively small Churchill of Glasgow Montana pram, specifically made by the manufacturer to fit in a car. However, it was not small enough to compete with the likes of the 1974 Silver Cross pushchair, which is also included in the collection. Contemporary design is represented by a further six prams and pushchairs, which date from the 1980s to the present day, including a Dreamer Design three-wheeled all-terrain buggy. Accessories complementing this collection include blankets, bags, mattresses, dolls, canopies, covers and rain covers, clothes, pillows, netting, patterns, seat insets and an umbrella. There are also approximately 50 photographs featuring many of the individual prams.
