Modern and Contemporary British Photography 1945 - 2000

Comments

Glasgow Museums has a collection of approximately 200 photographs that date from 1960 to the present by British artists or artists working in Britain. This collection includes photographs by major figures of 20th-century British photography, such as Eve Arnold and Nick Danziger. It also holds works that are of historical significance, including those taken in Glasgow in the 1960s by Joseph McKenzie and Oscar Marzaroli. Scottish photography of the late 20th and early 21st century is represented by important practitioners, such as Calum Colvin, Patricia Macdonald and Thomas Joshua Cooper. The collection contains strong examples of landscape photography, documentary photography and self-portraiture. There are also many photographs, such as those by Jo Spence and Peter Kennard, that explore issues such as illness, politics and religion. Other artists represented in the collection include David Hockney, Andy Goldsworthy and Graham Fagen, for whom photography is a part of their overall practice.
