Glasgow Museums has a collection of more than 100 parrot specimens. These date from 1876 to 1977.

This collection includes 38 mounted specimens, 46 skins, 10 skeletons, four skulls and a few eggs. The majority of the specimens with supporting data come from Australia, but there are also examples from Ethiopia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, India, Burma, Sarawak in Malaysia, New Guinea, New Zealand, Guyana and the Caribbean. The collection represents 26 species. Of this there are three examples of endangered species from New Zealand (kākāpō, kākā and kea). The kākāpō is critically endangered, and in 2018 there were only with only about 149 living individuals. The kea is listed as endangered, and the kākā is listed as vulnerable.

About parrots
Parrots belong to the order Psittaciformes. This order includes the true parrots (Psittacidae), such as parakeets, lorikeets and budgerigars, and the cockatoos (Cacatuidae).
