European Printed Textiles

Comments

Glasgow Museums has a collection of approximately 700 printed textile samples, designs and pattern books which date from 1800 to the present. This collection includes a variety of printed textiles, the largest grouping of which is related to the Turkey Red printing industry that started in Glasgow before moving to the Vale of Leven in the 19th century. This group includes printed samples, pattern books, designs and print blocks from several of the leading print works, such as the United Turkey Red Company. The collection also contains examples of 20th century prints, including printed 1960s designs from Heals by leading textile designers such as Peter Hall, and contemporary designs from Glasgow's own Timorous Beasties, like the Glasgow Toile.
