Glasgow Museums has a collection of around 30 items relating to Indian and Bangladeshi communities in Glasgow and which date from 1890 to the present. This collection comprises posters, banners, costume and textiles, ceramics, leaflets and a sword, a sculpture and a painting. The latter, entitled 'Mr Singh's India', is a work commissioned from Amrit and Rabindra Singh, which makes particular reference to Glasgow in its imagery. The sculpture of Surjit Singh Chhokar presented by The Chhokar Family Justice Campaign, 2006 is a reminder of institutionalized racism and the campaign to challenge it. Some items refer to maintaining cultural and faith identities, such as objects used in Bengali celebration of Durgh Pujain Glasgow in 1990s. In addition, a sign for Lascar seamen from Queen's Dock points to the existence and status of a transient community in Glasgow at the end of the 19th century. The collection also contains items that are of particular significance such as a long sword, Tulwar style, used in Sikh wars between 1849 and 1852/3.
