Glasgow Museums has a collection of approximately 320 items relating to Glasgow's Italian community which date from between 1890 and 1985. This collection comprises photographs, drawings, identity cards, café fixtures and fittings, badges, jars, dishes, spoons, kitchen equipment, confectionary packaging, receipts, letters and advertising material including signs. Most of these items relate to individual families and family businesses including the fixtures and fittings of the Rendezvous Café in Glasgow. The earliest item in the collection is the chestnut roaster used by Carmen Crolla to sell hot chestnuts in the east end of Glasgow in the 1890s, while the largest part of the collection comprises material from the café run by the Coia family. The collection reflects the existence and legacy of Italian immigration to the city and provides an insight into Italian cultural identity in Glasgow.
