Glasgow Museums has a collection of over 150 items relating to washing and cleaning in Glasgow which date from between 1849 and 1979. This collection comprises irons, cleaning products, hairbrushes, shaving equipment, ceramics and mangles. It also contains washing machines, washboards, washing tubs, carpet beaters, vacuum cleaners and ephemera. The collection also holds boot polish, cleaning brushes, badges, tickets, chimney sweep's brushes, bathroom fittings and dressing cases. There are a number of photographs, prints, postcards and paintings which depict Glasgow Green, the 'steamie' and laundry drying in back yards.
