Iraq

Comments

Glasgow Museums has a collection of approximately 38 objects from Iraq, which date from about 908 to 1979. This collection predominantly comprises 20th century Arab and Kurdish costumes, textiles and jewellery. Other items include three early Islamic coins dating from the 8th to 9th century, and a ‘joze’, or spike fiddle, made originally in 17th century Mosul, Iraq, but owned and embellished by a Georgian singer in the 19th century. The 20th century Arab and Kurdish costumes, textiles and jewellery were all collected and donated by Dr Ellen McAdam during the 1970s. It is also significant that some of these costumes were made specifically for the donor.
