Waterline Ship Models

Comments

Glasgow Museums has a collection of 24 models and four collections of miniature models made in the waterline style, where the lower part of the hull is not modelled, and the model sits on a flat base. These models are usually designed to have a realistic setting, either being placed on a base decorated with plaster bow-waves and wakes, or to be placed on a flat painted surface to represent a ship in still waters. Fourteen of the models are professionally made exhibition models and seven of them are amateur built. The style is more commonly associated with amateur builders as these models were easily mounted, or positioned as part of decorative dioramas.
