Glasgow Museums has a collection related to the promotion of railways across Scotland as well as the wider United Kingdom. Items in the collection date from some of the earliest railways in Scotland to the ‘Big Five’ Scottish railways (Caledonian, North British, Glasgow & South Western, Highland, Great North of Scotland), London Midland & Scottish, London and North Eastern and British Railway. It includes timetables, route maps, tourist guides, ceremonial publications and cross modal items such as railway and steamer timetables. In addition there are some items related to railways in England, Ireland, Wales and Europe. The dates for the collection are 1842-1910.
