Glasgow Museums has a collection of nine locomotives and covers the dates of 1886 until 1945. The focus is on Glasgow built examples from the several companies that were once based in the city (Sharp Stewart, Neilson & Company, Dubs & Company, North British Locomotive Company) and those built by the railway companies themselves (North British Railway. Examples include representatives from each of the 'Big Five' Scottish railway companies and a locomotive built for export to South Africa by the North British Locomotive Company. In addition there is a fireless locomotive and a Chaplin ‘coffee pot’ style locomotive in the collection.
