Glasgow Museums has a collection of nine platypus and echidnas (Monotremata) specimens. These date from 1878 to 1982.

This collection includes six platypus specimens (Ornithorhynchus anatinus) and three short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus).

About monotremes
Monotremes are the only egg-laying mammals and come from Australia, Tasmania and New Guinea. There is one species of platypus and four species of echidnas.
