Cephalopods

Comments

Glasgow Museums has a collection of approximately 190 cephalopods. They date from 1884 to 2005.

This collection includes about 70 squid, octopus and cuttlefish in spirit. They are almost all from British seas, with a large number donated and identified by Dr R. Bamber in the early 1980s. There are also dried cephalopod remains, including around 20 Argonauta or paper nautilus shells, around 30 nautilus shells, 20 squid pens and cuttlefish bones, 16 octopus and squid beaks, 31 lots of Spirula shells and four ink blots from squid and cuttlefish. Most of these came from the collections of Thomas Gray (1820-1910) and Robert P. Scase (1914-1993).

In addition, there are around 12 cephalopod models, most of which are made in glass by Blaschka of Dresden and are part of the Mason collection.
