Glasgow Museums has a collection of approximately 23 items of Scottish banking papers and correspondence. These date from 1839 to 1989 and predominantly represent banks in Glasgow and the west of Scotland, including the City of Glasgow Bank, the Western Bank and the Savings Bank. This collection contains administrative papers such as paying-in slips, savings books, bank slips, bank books and a deposit book, and marketing materials such as a prospectus, invitations to a dinner commemorating the Thistle Bank, newspaper cuttings, leaflets, correspondence, a report and a booklet. Parts of the collection relate to professional and customer provision, highlighting issues such as banks employing women as managers and establishing banks exclusively for women. Other areas of the collection show how some banks were established to serve exclusive markets and trades, such as the a book dating to 1851 for the Glasgow Rope Makers and Savings Bank.
