This collection comprises a book, entitled 'Peace and Purity: the story of the Brahma Kumaris: A Spiritual Revolution' written by Liz Hodgkinson. The Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University (BKWSU) was founded in India in the 1930s and is unique in that women are the administrative heads. The university, which has both male and female students, now has 4,000 branches in over 70 countries including Scotland. The BKWSU offers a range of value-based programmes on personal growth and self-development including meditation, positive thinking and self-esteem. Followers of Brahma Kumaris believe that by developing positive spiritual values society, and by extension the world, can be changed. There are about 50 Brahma Kumaris in Scotland, and approximately 10 in Glasgow, based in Crookston.
