Home Front World War Two

Glasgow Museums has a collection of approximately 1-1,500 objects relating to the home front during World War Two (1939-1945). The collection is wide ranging and covers most aspects of home front life, such as food rationing and cookery, school and evacuation, air raid precautions, bombing, prisoners of war, munitions manufacture or land girls. Utility furniture and clothing are not included in the collection, and nor are military items, medals etc. The types of objects in the collection are varied and include photographs, books, toys, food packaging, documents, bombs, gas masks, leaflets, cigarette cards, land girl clothing, ARP badges and armbands, ration books, artworks, barrage balloon sections, an air raid shelter and much more.
