Glasgow Museums has a collection of about 80 objects relating to the company Wylie and Lochhead. These date from the 19th to the early 20th century. This collection covers Wylie and Lochhead’s output in the Glasgow Style, which was showcased at the 1901 Glasgow International Exhibition. Three young designers created the range – Ernest Archibald Taylor (1874–1951), John Ednie (1876–1934) and George Logan (1866–1939). The collection contains original work and archival and support material relating to each designer and to the company in general. There are 52 works by EA Taylor, including furniture and furnishings, stained glass designs and paintings. George Logan is represented by 21 works, including furniture, watercolours, drawings, metalwork and ceramics, and John Ednie by eight objects, including furniture and works on paper. The collection also contains drawings, paintings and photographs that represent their art and design careers outside of the company. Wylie and Lochhead began business as undertakers in early 19th century Glasgow. By 1860 they had diversified into all areas of domestic and commercial furnishing and by 1900 they were the leading cabinetmakers and upholsterers in the city.
