Yuan Dynasty

Comments

Glasgow Museums has a collection of 23 items from the Yuan Dynasty (1279–1368). This collection contains 21 ceramic pieces. These include a dish with a bracket-lobed rim and underglaze cobalt-blue decoration, a pear-shaped ewer, a baluster-shaped vase and a ring-handled vase with Qingbai glaze and incised decoration. The collection also has a jade champion vase. The Yuan Dynasty was established by the Mongols and lasted from 1279 to 1368. Its artistic centre was the capital city Dadu (now Beijing). During this period the development of long-distance trade and communication was important for Chinese ceramics, most of which were produced at the Jingdezhen kiln complex in Jiangxi province in south-east China.
