Glasgow Museums has a collection of medieval archaeological objects. These date broadly from 400 to 1500 AD and include excavated material as well as stray finds from many parts of Scotland including Glasgow, Renfrewshire, South Lanarkshire, Stirlingshire, Argyll and Bute, the Western Isles, and Dumfries and Galloway. The collection includes carved stone cross shafts; complete ceramic vessels and assemblages of imported and domestic ceramics; copper-alloy ringed pins and other types of dress pins; and a number of Medieval Scottish coins. A small number of religious objects include a cross and two crucifices and a Romanesque censer. Of particular interest is a large excavation assemblage from an Early Medieval crannog which includes rare artefacts of wood and leather such as troughs, dishes, a log boat and a satchel, as well as a complete E-ware vessel and a penannular brooch. Of relevance also are approximately 116 Victorian plaster casts of sculptured medieval stones and a number of good quality 19th century replicas of early-medieval Irish reliquaries and brooches.
