Middleton Farm Hoard

Comments

Glasgow Museums has a collection of three bronze objects known as the Middleton Farm Hoard. The objects were discovered together at Middleton Farm, near Newton Mearns, in East Renfrewshire. The hoard dates to 1000–800 BC, in the Late Bronze Age. The collection comprises of a tanged chisel or knife, a socketed and looped axehead, and a knife blade section which has been broken in two. It may be that the Middleton Farm Hoard was a collection of metal objects buried for safe-keeping and which were never recovered, but it could also be interpreted as a a collection of tools which were deposited as a ritual or religious offering.
