British Imperialism and its Legacies: Resisting Racism

Glasgow Museums has a collection of objects and artworks which highlight some of the ways people have resisted racism. These objects represent a range of time periods, places and contexts. They include artworks, trade union badges that express solidarity with black people suffering under South African apartheid, and more recent examples from Black Lives Matter demonstrations held in Glasgow in 2020.
As long as racism has existed as a legacy of transatlantic slavery and colonialism, people have been fighting against it; asserting, in different ways, the fact that everyone, regardless of the colour of their skin, is equal in nature and should be treated that way. And yet racism still persists as a legacy of slavery and empire, and so people still need to stand against it and be anti-racist.
