Modern and Contemporary British Photography Post 2000

Comments

Glasgow Museums has a growing collection of photography by British artists post 2000. Currently the collection mainly consists of documentary photography or portraiture. The collection consists of documentary photography, landscape, portraiture, and conceptual work. Artists include Anthony Schrag, Beagles & Ramsay, Ilana Halperin, and Iseult Tinnermans. A focus is on the Glasgow art scene itself. We have acquired a collection of over 33 photographs by Alan Dimmick who has been photographing exhibitions and events since the 1980’s. Many of the artists featured in their early career have gone on to great success and have work in Glasgow Museums collection. In recent years we have commissioned Mathew Arthur Williams to take portraits of artist who are in the collection, or we have worked with, to try and open up the lens of which we look our collection and artists through. We also have 4 portraits, including a self-portrait by London based artist Ajamu, from when they were an artist in residence at GoMA in 2009. We have continued to work with Ajamu on various projects and now have a portrait of them by Mathew Arthur Williams.
