Modern and Contemporary British Painting 1945-2000

Comments

Glasgow Museums has a collection of British paintings from 1945 to 2000. This collection includes figurative, landscape and abstract paintings from artists including Graham Sutherland, Euan Uglow, Stanley Spencer, Mary Barnes, Francis Davison, Alison Watt and John Bellany. In the early 1990’s significant works were acquired for the collection from Bridget Riley, John Keane, Bruce McLean, Steven Campbell, and Margaret Mellis which were included in the opening of the Gallery of Modern Art in 1996. Since then further paintings by Conrad Atkinson, Frank Auerbach and Leonard McComb have been acquired for display across Glasgow Museums. As we are based in Scotland there is a focus on work made by artists who were born, have trained, lived and worked here. For more information on this area of the collection please see Modern and Contemporary Scottish Painting 1945 -2000
