Glasgow Museums has a collection of Modern and Contemporary International paintings made between 1945 and 2000. These include a significant number of works acquired for the Gallery of Modern Art opening in 1996. The holdings include works by Matthius Kauage, Paddy Japaljarri Sims and Doris Holzhandler who were included in the opening displays at the museum. More recently through the Afro Scots project works by Aubrey Williams and Donald Locke were acquired for the collection.
