Glasgow Museums has a collection of approximately 260 objects representing elections: 55 represent local Glasgow Corporation or Council elections. Strathclyde Regional Council elections have 47 objects, General Elections 67 and By Elections for the British Parliament 70. Other objects include 6 for the European Parliament elections and 2 for a Scottish Parliament election. Then there are 4 objects representing election rules, 7 representing media coverage and 3 suffragettes in Scotland campaigning for voting rights. The collection represents Glaswegian seats and dates from the late 1800s to the 1990s. The collection generally categorised as social history, archive and supporting collection, and complements other collections on Members of Parliament, Prime Ministers and political history. The range of objects representing elections varies from photographs to campaigning promotional material made for elections including posters, leaflets and photographs. The earliest representations date to the late 1800s and in especially strong in the 1980s. The latest collection represents the 1990s in post devolution Scotland and the reestablishment of the Scottish Parliament.
