Marquis

Comments

Glasgow Museums has a collection of approximately 70 objects representing the noble title Marquis, of which 42 represent Scottish Marquises ( Angus, Argyll, Breadalbane, Bute, Dalhousie, Hamilton, Lorne, Lothian, Montrose, Tweeddale). There are further 11 objects for English Marquises and 16 for Europeans. The collection generally categorised history, art and decorative art. The range of objects representing Scottish Marquises varies. There are archives, portraits and photographs showing the nobles in person and being politically powerful in their own rights within Scotland and the British Empire. Most of the collection dates from the 18th and 20th centuries.
