The Hyde Park works was the home of Neilson & Company. The name of the works was taken from the company's original works which were located in Hyde Park Street in Finnieston, Glasgow. The company was taken over by James Reid, a former works manager and partner of the company. The works amalgamated with the Atlas and Glasgow Locomotive Company in 1903. At its peak the works covered 60 acres, employed 8,000 people and had the capacity to build 600 locomotives a year, the majority of which were for export.
