British Thomson-Houston Company (BTH) was a British engineering and heavy industrial company that began production in 1886, based at Rugby, Warwickshire, England. It was founded as a subsidiary of the Thomson-Houston company (which became General Electric) of Schenectady, New York, USA. BTH was known for its electrical systems and steam turbines. The company produced electrical components for tram and railways and latterly items for road, rail and aerospace transportation. The company was amalgamated with Metropolitan-Vickers in 1928 and formed Associated Electrical Industries (AEI). In 1967 it was purchased by the General Electric Company (GEC) and became Britain’s largest electrical group.
