Occupation

Dressmaker

Description

Murielle’s was an up-market dressmaker and retailer founded in 1910 by Mrs Muriel Hymans with premises at 432 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow. Many of the dresses Mrs Hymans sold were sourced in Paris by herself or her daughter Miss Esmee Hymans. She refused to buy more than one of each colour dress to avoid her customer’s embarrassment upon wearing the same dress as another at a function. Mrs Hymans' sister, Rhona Levine assisted in the shop, whilst her husband kept the accounts. Murielle's closed in 1973.
